Largest NPA Land Mine Factory Seized by AFP

The Armed Forces of the Philippines seized the largest land mine factory of the New People's Army in Agusan Del Sur. At least 163 improvised land mines were recovered by the military which could have injured thousands if detonated at the same time.


The discovery was aided by tips from the residents of Sitio Mapait, Barangay Kauswagan in the town of Loreto according to the AFP's Eastern Mindanao Commander, Lieutenant General Ricardo Rainier Cruz III.

Even though land mines are built to be used during warfare, many innocent people have been injured by land mines after a war. Hundreds have suffered amputation of the lower limbs while deaths have been recorded too.

President Noynoy Aquino praised the AFP for the seizure of the land mine factory saying that this will prevent injuries to both the army and civilians in the future.
